The History of our Familys’ Gym

It all started With our father, Steve Heasley, when he opened
Butler Gymnastics Club in March of 1974.

He competed as a member of the Butler High School gymnastics team before pursing competitive gymnastics at Slippery Rock University. Steve excelled at SRU as he was a four-year letterman and Team Captain. He also earned the Outstanding Athlete of America Honors (All-American). His coaches and mentors included well-known gymnastic talents such as Bud Williams, Paul Uram, Dave McKinnis, and Steve Banjack.

Steve began his coaching career, where he started as a young man, the Butler Senior High School! He coached both the boys and girls gymnastics teams. During his 5-year tenure, Steve coached the girls gymnastics team to an unprecedented record of 54-2! This record stands today as the Most Winning Percentage Overall of Any Sport at Butler High School.

Thanks to Steve’s hard work and dedication the Butler gymnastics teams qualified for the WPIAL and PIAA champions twice!

as the legacy of Butler Gymnastics Club celebrates it’s 49th year of service; Steve’s passion is carried through with the help of his daughter, Michelle & Phil, his youngest son.
